Police chase ends with motorcyclist in critical condition

A Kokomo man is in critical condition after leading a Marion police officer on a car chase early Monday morning.

According to a press release from the Marion Police Department, 30-year-old Dustin Michael Cox, of Kokomo, approached an intersection on a yellow motorcycle, traveling north on Meridian Street at approximately 1:20 a.m.

The press release states that Cox failed to stop at a stop sign, instead accelerating at a high rate of speed once he saw an officer patrolling the area.

Officers state Cox led them on a chase, reaching an estimated speed on 100 mph, traveling north on Meridian Street toward the intersection of State Road Nine before Cox slammed on his breaks and hit the curb.

According to the release, the motorcycle was airborne briefly and both it and Cox went through a metal sign. Cox was ejected into the parking lot on the edge of State Road Nine.

Cox was taken to Marion General Hospital before being transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne.

According to the press release, the motorcycle was a 1995 Honda, registered to Debbie Hoff of Peru.
