So I grew up in Illinois, and when I was a kid, we didn’t have the technology that we have today. We had…OUTSIDE! But there always seemed to be at least one house or two that a friend had that was considered the “cool” house. By that I mean that inside, there were some cool items that made the kids want to hang out there. Maybe it was a pool, arcade game, pool table, ping pong table, whatever. My house was not one of these.
When I entered high school, my family moved into a home that had a bar and a game room. Bar, pool table and a TV. So we did entertain more often. But as a younger child I remember being in a friends house that had a few old school arcade games, an enclosed pool, and a large back yard where we played badminton, croquet, we could run bases and lots of other activities.
A survey recently came out and asked what made someone’s house the “Cool” house to hang out at? Here were the answers:
- Good snacks – 49%
- Video games – 38%
- Cable TV – 38%
- Pool – 34%
- Different toys than I had – 33%
- Board games – 33%
- Big backyard – 31%
- A dog/pet to play with – 29%
- Siblings to play with – 27%
- Trampoline – 24%
Food can make a difference. And now with social distancing in place and most people not going out as often, if you have or had these things in your house…Yeah I could see why more people would want to be there to hang out. And how did a fire pit not make the list? Did you have any of these in your home? If yes…did you get a lot of visitors? 🙂
