Board Of Works Re-Issues Demo Order For Property

The Marion Board of Works has re-issued a demolition order for a building along South Adams Street and this time they mean to see it come down.

The order was issued on the building when it was owned by former State Representative P. Eric Turner, but he gave the property to an organization based in Upland that wanted to open a facility for artists and performers in Marion.  Funding for the project fell through and then it was discovered that the building was beyond repair.

City Building Inspector Jerry Foustnight said they tried to work with the new owners, but to no avail.

The city will seek bids and award a contract for demolition in the next few weeks, but Foustnight says he hopes the new owners will pay to have the job done on their own.

The Board of Works also elected a new President Monday.  Linda Wilk will be the new Board President, with Trent Daily serving as Vice-President this year.
