Alabama suffers from yellow jacket ‘super nests’

As if normal yellow jacket nests aren’t scary enough, imagine nests filled with more than 15,000 of them.

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is warning of yellow jacket colonies of the size of a Volkswagen Beetle known as “super nests” in Alabama.

The nests are becoming more common as an abundant food supply and temperatures over the winter which fail to cool enough to kill off the insects, allowing them to building year round.
