BREAKING: Marion Design Co. must vacate former Salin Bank building in six days

In order to make way for the proposed central dispatch center, the Marion Design Co. (MDCO) has been asked to vacate their home for the last four summers before Sept. 23.

MDCO was housed in the former Salin Bank building located on 302 S. Washington St. in downtown Marion.

In a letter asking local community leaders for help, MDCO asks for the four items listed below:

1. Praying for discernment and provision. We want to minimize interruption for our students learning and work for on our community projects during this transition.

2. Sharing with us resources you might find helpful for us. Most importantly a space in a building that has heat, light, bathrooms, and possibly wifi (or capability for wifi). We’ve begun conversations with some of you. While IWU has not anticipated this expense, they want to do what they can to support a new space. So paying a month to month rent can be in the negotiations. While it may not pay market rate for what it’s worth, it may at least help pay the bills while the space is waiting for a permanent occupant.

3. Help us on moving day. If you and your friends are able, could you help us move to our new location? Time, date, and location to be announced.

4. Share our need with your friends. We really believe that being neighbors is one of our greatest resources. So, if you know of resources we may not be aware of, please pass those onto us.

In the letter, the MDCO thanked the Grant County Commissioners for allowing them to use this space.

“We’ve been extremely blessed to have been given the space in the former Salin Bank building since we commenced,” the letter read. “The Grant County Commissions have been very generous and we’re hoping our relationship will continue in the future.”

MDCO added that before this morning they have not been given a timeline for the anticipated construction period.

MDCO added that they believe it is imperative to be present on the downtown square to maintain the same level of visibility.

“If you can help with any of the listed (or unlisted) ways, please contact us by text, phone call, or email,” the letter reads. “We look forward to seeing how the unknown spaces will be filled with people who love this community.”
