Marion General Hospital to visit schools to provide health services and education

Marion General Hospital will join the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) and other state and national rural stakeholders in celebrating National Rural Health Day on Thursday.

MGH staff will be reaching out to the community and offering services and education, specifically handwashing as well as cold and flu information, in our local schools.

Participating schools include Riverview Elementary, Allen Elementary, Frances Slocum Elementary, Mississinewa Northview Elementary (2nd graders), Eastbrook South, St. Paul Catholic School and McCulloch Jr. High School have all confirmed they will be taking part as of writing.

NRHD says that rural communities face unique healthcare needs. Today more than ever, rural communities must tackle accessibility issues, a lack of healthcare providers, the needs of an aging population suffering from a greater number of chronic conditions, and larger percentages of un- and underinsured citizens.

An estimated 57 million people – nearly one in five Americans – call rural communities home.
