MPD: Man leads police on half-hour police chase

A 20-year-old man was arrested on felony charges after leading Marion police officers on a car chase late Monday night.

At around 10:45 p.m. police began chasing Joseph Johnson Jr. in the 3100 block of S. Curfman Road. The chase ended a half-hour later at McCulloch Middle School, according to Marion’s Deputy Chief Stephen Dorsey.

It’s unclear at this time what lead to the pursuit.

Johnson Jr. used a 1995 Dodge pickup truck during the chase. Passenger Eathen Colwell, 18, was interviewed by police and released after being medically cleared.

Johnson was transported to Marion General Hospital where he was medically cleared. Johnson was then transported to the Grant County Jail without incident.

He faces charges of reckless driving, resisting law enforcement, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon.

No officers were injured in the pursuit and the investigation is still active.

This is a developing story.
