Grant County receives nearly $25k for emergency food and shelter programs

Grant County has been awarded federal funds made available by the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency, under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

According to a press release, Grant County has been chosen to receive $24,494 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

The Local Board will determine how the funds awarded to Grant County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The Local Board is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:

1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government

2) be eligible to receive Federal funds

3) have an accounting system,

4) practice nondiscrimination

5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter

Programs

6) if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.

7) Not be debarred or suspended from receiving Federal funding;

8) Have a checking account. (Cash payments are not allowed);

9) Have a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN), (Note: contact local IRS office for more

information on securing FEIN and the necessary form [SS-4] or go to the website: www.irs.gov)

10) Have a Data Universal Number System (DUNS) number issued by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) and provide along with other required associated

11) Practice nondiscrimination (those agencies with a religious affiliation wishing to participate in the program must not refuse services to an applicant based on religion or require attendance at religious services as a condition of assistance, nor will such groups engage in any religious proselytizing in any program receiving EFSP funds;

12) To the extent practicable, involve homeless individuals and families, through employment, volunteer programs, etc., in providing emergency food and shelter services.

Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.

Grant County has distributed Emergency Food and Shelter funds previously with Hands of Hope/Family Service Society, Inc.; Salvation Army of Grant County and St. Martin DePorres participating. These agencies were responsible for providing numerous meals, emergency nights of lodging and rental assistance.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must contact Linda Wilk, Hands of Hope Director, a division of Family Service Society, Inc. at lwilk@famservices.com or 765-662-9971 ext. 123 for an application. The deadline for applications to be completed and returned to Linda Wilk is by noon, Jan. 22.
